Using a collection of found and donated record players, mixers and 33 records, 33 years and 8 months of music listening was condensed into an extended record playing presentation. Guests affected the sounds by choosing records, tying tone arms, controlling mixers and joining in with other instruments. This playful and irreverent work addresses our relationship to familiar music and through disruption, duration and collaboration, allows the development of new work with a new musical vocabulary while also examining the properties of time as a destructive force within the creative process. The
performance was in the studio and broadcast
using Livestream,
a streaming service allowing any number
of viewers but needing a high speed internet
connection. Extracts from the performance
can be found below and on youtube.
The complete archive (as much as there is)
should now be available on Livestream and
can be selected through the on demand function.
